I must confess owning your own house has a tendency to let you dream alot. So I sit here and ponder what do I want to do with my property. I quess the biggest thing I want to do with our property is make it work. I really would like to have quite a few gardens, thus cutting down on the grocery bill. I have plans for two or three more spots to garden in. I also want a clothes line, this project had to wait for the extra fence to come down and now this weekend it looks like alot of rain, so probably not happening. We have one door on the garage to paint and the shutters also on the house. We have cleaned up the green mold that was on the back of the house. Yesterday I was able to get a raspberry bush, a big one for five bucks. Love those sales, and one of my friends has some flowers for me and I have glad bulbs, sixty five of them that I got for like 2.50. Next year two apple trees and possible a cherry tree if the one i am nursing dies. Dave wants some lilac bushes across the way. Also want to put a huge flower garden wrapping around my garage. I would love to side the garage but will need alot of mula before that gets done so that will be a few years.
Pray for MLK as she has big decisions for her future ahead, it is a rough age to be. Well all for now

thinking about the future
Well yesterday was a very upsetting day for MLK, they failed her at the test, my daughter has logged more than eighty hours behind the wheel and if I think she is a safe driver then that is going a ways as I hate riding with all people and am extremely skittish passenger. This means for her that she has to wait till Sept. to test again in Missouri. She is however considering other options. We had a long long talk with her last night, and she said to us I love you both very much but I am ready to be my own person to do my own thing. She said that failing the test was so much more than just that as it holds her back from being her own person. She is strongly considering moving to Iowa and possible living in Centerville with Gma Viv. She could create residence and work, maybe even go to Indian Hills, but she is desperate to do her thing, not just be an extension of us. I told her that was a very natural thing and not at all wrong to desire. It is an important step, once she lands a job and or lives there for thirty days she can test in Iowa and since she is over eighteen she wont have all these stupid restrictions, you do it till you get it, no long waiting periods and stupid stuff.
I also am filing a formal complaint with troop H agaisnt both ladies at the office, as two test agos I sit inside after MLK went out to the car to have a good cry by herself (as she requested). The minute she went out the door I heard them loud and clear across the room about that horrid driver and the other one chiming in that oh yes I have had that one before and then a lower conversation between them going on and on about it, I could only catch bits and pieces, and yesterday was not a whole lot different. So I asked for their badge number their names and their supervisors, called the people at Troop H and wrote a two page proffessional letter that I will be presenting their supervisor in person hopefully on Monday. It may not go anywhere but I do think it is necessary as they act like two old biddies on a power hunger trip. Their conduct needs to be taken care of and from what I was catching from the Lt. in another dept. this is not the first time either.
Today MLK and I are going to go to town and have lunch together and just enjoy the day and pick up MDK at noon from camp. We have alot to talk about, whether or not she wants to move to Iowa stay here or what she wants to do. We did look into Indian Hills and they have an AA degree with a Focus in Art that has alot of good classes, in state tution at MWSU is more expensive than out of state tution at Indian Hills and all the classes she needs she could do in Centerville. I am hoping that she can have some answers that she is comfortable with. Maybe this is God's way of letting her focus on saving money and maybe C of O will open up for her when she has saved up room and board money. Be in prayer for her and us as we approach big decisions. Oh she finished her class yesterday and took the final, the teacher said everyone would be getting no lower than a C, she is hoping for an A will be satisfied with a B and okay with a C, she really thinks she will get a A or a B. She will have eight credits not bad for a girl that graduated a month ago!

yes we sometimes run a farm
Well we now have another member of the family, Dave found the newsest member on the side of the road he passed it once but couldnt pass it up twice, it was a mile or two outside of Osceloa when he, Denise and his Dad went to visit Gma Kaster in her new nursing home, it specializes in Alzhemiers and Dave was very impressed with it as it did a great job and was very tailor fitted for her needs as her disease advances. So our new family member is a very small barely has it eyes open kitty. It is a tabby furball, and we cant tell if it is a boy or a girl yet. Dave pretty sure it got dumped as it was a mile or two away from any house. We are keeping it in the girls bathroom till it gets a little bigger and can survive our bigger cats. Our new dog Jack is doing awesome, but will need to get a shock collar for it due to the fact that it can jump the fence without any problems, however he stays in the yard and mostly on the porch, however our highway people drive by fast so this weekend plan to get a collar for him. Louie has decided that he really likes him and they play and play. Jack has learned that Louie is the alpha and what bark means I have had enough. He finally warmed up to Dave the other night and jumped up on his lap and snuggled in. He has learned to whine to be let out and scratch to come back in. We will give him a few months and then try to get him to learn to sit and such. He leads pretty well on a leash and has learned the word no. He has only had one accident which is pretty amazing.
I did some mentoring hours this morning and did well I have a few small things to work on but will have to postpone testing untill the jobs pick back up as they are just very dry right now and that is not an expense I can do right now. Still it is on my radar and am enjoying the experience but trying not to spend an extra lot of money on gas. Tommorow MDK is coming home from camp and MLK has her final, we changed freshman orientation so that she will be able to go to it all it is next Thursday. She is going to take her driving test if they fax the paperwork to her, that has been a three stinky day ordeal leave it to government to make things difficult. Garden is doing great and been working on crochet lapghan. Also thinking about working on the denim quilt again. My herbs are coming up and one pumpkin plant has come up. Got some cheap glad bulbs and going to plant them on the side of the house. Well better go for now.

a pocketful of peas
Well got the lawn mowed (my part at least) this morning, what a pleasant day, nice breeze and good temp. I did a little weeding in the raised beds due to the other two gardens are quite wet from the storms we have had. My peas are starting to yellow so I got what I could off the pea plants, that raised bed gets too much sunlight. Will pull them soon when they are finished producing and if there are strawberries to be had around in the stores I will plant them there. I think all of those raised beds will be strawberries. While I was mowing I noticed about three mulberry trees we have, and I do think the vine is a wild grape. I also had a mid morning snack of a few blueberries, only about five but really juicy. Not bad for the first year. I looked over my other stuff though I didnt want to step in and sink to China, I have some starts of tomatoes and one pepper, and about ten cucumbers. The bean are loaded with blooms. I havent touched inside the house and it most definately needs it as yesterday was run and do errands and such and didnt get housework done. I acutally had a job yesterday which was good.
Today MLK thinks she has a doctors appt. so that will be an afternoon gone for me. She has another doctor appt tommorow with our regular physican to rule out why she is not feeling right and making sure there is nothing physically wrong. MDK i think gets back Thursday afternoon. Well better get around take a shower and work on the house.

a simple Fathers day
Well Father's Day was a simple task the girls made their Dad a nice dinner we all took naps and then we watched some movies and that was it. Oh yeah we also tested our soil with my new soil tester, the ph balance of all my gardens are good but it looks like I need to add some fertilizer to the main garden still have to test the other two spots to see what I need to add. Find cheap ways to fertilize as I dont want to dump a bunch of money into it. What I have found so far, epsom salt is a great way to put magnasium in the soil good for tomatoes and peppers, pee mixed with alot of water works for nitrogen, egg shells for pottisum and wood ash for potash. So I pretty much have all that around here so that should work for me. Plan to do the lawn today if it doesnt rain and work in the gardens, also working on getting invoices done and in order but must first get ink for our printer. I have a job today, yeah, short and sweet but still get paid for it. So not a total desert, just a very dry climate. Working on an afghan and found out a mistake so had to rip about 7 hours of work out, that is sooooo frustrating and now the yarn got all tangled again frustrating. MDK takes off for camp this morning and MLK finishes classes this week. Paperwork has still not come for her to get to take her test and her car is in the shop, brake line went out when MDK was driving but quick thinking on her part got it slowed down and stopped she threw it into reverse and pumped the brake till she stopped, luckily at low speeds when it happened.
Our new dog is doing well, so far only one accident and now has learned to scratch at the door to get back in and stands by the door to go out, is starting to let Dave touch him but still very leary. Also not humping as much and is responding to his name and stops bad behavior when told no. All in all not a bad first week. However can jump the fence but only does that when his people are outside of the fence hate to get him a shock coller as he is so shy but will wait and see how he does if he gets ornery we may have no choice.
Tommorow Dave and his dad and sis are going to visit Gma Kaster, she was moved to an alzhemiers wing in oscela due to her violent outbursts agaisnt staff and other residents in Centerville. Dave loves to see his gma and dreads it all at the same time. He says that what has happened was always gma biggest fear for herself and it is so sad to see her like that. He says my gma has been gone for awhile that this is just her body really. It is a hard thing to see esp. with such a change of personality as gma would have never been violent. His other gma will celebrate her eighty birthday in July and they are going to have a big open house for her. Well better jump in the shower as I have girls to drop off for class and camp.

a restful Saturday
Well we have just had a laid back Saturday, Dave, Denise and I went garage saling in Maysville, pretty pathetic around town garage sale, however found Dave a circular saw and got two nice office chairs on the cheap so not a total loss. We got home cleaned a little bit and both took a nap, and had one of those gooey wonderful naps. We woke up and did a little bit of yard work and then got three cucumbers out of the garden and made cucumbers and vinegar and our one lettuce head so making salad also.
Having a low key weekend, which is awesome.

doing crafts
Well I have finally got caught up on all the should haves and now I get to do the what I want to. I dropped off MLK graduation quilt yesterday. I am working on the raggy denim quilt today and I have been crocheting an afghan for my sister, it is blue, brown and chocolate brown. It is turning out really nice. My garden and planting is all up to date and so is my housework. I got the girls portfolios mostly done and plan to work on my invoices for work and taxes.
MLK made a very cute purse out of a belt she got at a garage sale, an old denim strap off an old dress and a denim skirt that was too big for her. It turned out really cute but need a fasterner to keep it shut, looked around and found some velcro which did the trick. Really cute! MDK comes home today, and has a short job for a couple she went to Guatemela with, they are going for a long weekend so she will be checking in on their dogs and watering their plants and such. MLK paperwork has not come so it looks like she wont be testing till next week.
Well better get off here for now.

how does my garden grow
It is growing very well thank you! It has done so well, rain and then sun and then rain, a really good growing season so far this summer. My rain barrel is doing well also, it is completely full and I am using it to water everything from the porch, also we use a bucket to water the gardens from the stream so we dont hike the water bill. I have my first cucumber it should be ready to pick in a few days. Today I am going to start some herbs and put in pumpkins, dust some of the veggies and piddle around. I cleaned the house throughly yesterday and have like one load of laundry today. Hope to maybe get caught up on my invoices printed out and finish off the girls portfolios, I have it all together and just got the sheet protectors yesterday. It has been kinda hard in a way to have so much down time, feel guilty, which is just odd. I am going to check my compost bin and see how it is doing. Well better go piddle in the garden before it gets too warm.

our new dog Jack
Well we have welcomed a new dog into our home, we had been thinking about finding a dog that Louie could play with as he is too big for Gidget he just hurts her. My sister had a jack russel terrier that wasnt really working out well for her family, it was too jumpy for her boys so we brought him home on a trail basis and he is doing great. Louie is getting along very well with him and enjoys playing with him. He is a shy dog but seems to be a fast learner. He was in the house all night and didnt have an accident he has been peeing outside and doing rather well. MLK gave him a bath and he wimpered alot but was cordial and did well, today I will spend most of the day working with him to train him to go outside but so far so good. I am pleased with how well he is doing and he has bonded well with MLK. He is going to the vet tommorow to get fixed as he is humping everything but I think with that transition he will do well and not be needed to get on top of both dogs as much. He seems smart and in time we will teach him how to fetch and come and proably a few other tricks. Right now all three dogs are in the living room with me, gidget and jack are laying on either end of the couch and Lou at my feet. Well need to go they are at the door so bye for now.

our many birds and squirrels
Now that we have been here for a year and worked around the place and gotten the outside a little closer to what we wanted, I have slowed down and bit to check out what type of species of trees, plants and flowers we have and the wide variety of animals we have on our property. We have a ton of birds, even though we havent attracted purple martins yet. On our property we have alot of goosberry bushes, and we also have wild grapes, both of these bushes will provide the birds with food. As far as the squirrels we have a gazillion walnut trees on our property and that keeps them fat and sassy. We have bullfrogs in our creek and we have alot of snakes. We identified our big green snake that suns itself in a small tree by the bank on a regualar basis, it is called a Green Missippi water snake and it is actually on the endangered list in Missouri. We also have a rather good sized garter snake that we see on occasion, we also found his snake skin last week. We have some beautiful bluebirds on our property and a hummingbird and a ton of different butterflies.
Yesterday Dave had a rather rough day, he had a stretch of good days and was hoping it would continue but alas I dont think it will. He was having nerve pain, trouble sallowing and what we call his gimp yesterday, so he took it pretty easy, it is what it is and it is better to work with it then try to conquer it.
Still no jobs, but trying to be at peace with that, the Lord will provide. Well better get people around for church.

glad all are home
Well MDK got home about 7:30 last night, she said she had a good first week. She showed off her tan she got from swimming with M and J. She said that L. is a real Mama boy but oh so cute! We went on our walk last night, our funny cat Mr. Tibbs always comes with, it was getting ready to storm so he meowed the whole way and he scared off the stray dog that has been hanging around. He is quite the Garfield type character. MLK is finished this week with her class and is half done. She is enjoying the class. Her classmates are all older and kinda a cliquish bunch, so it has been interesting for her but she has one guy that she has enjoyed becoming friends with so she is doing fine. She goes in the end of this month to set up her fall schedule.
I have been doing alot of gardening of late and just throughly enjoying it, learning alot, I have known how to garden forever, but am trying to learn about ph of the soil and all that and how to fertilize and do better. I also need to get out my camera and get to taking more pictures and learn more about the features on my camera. It has been nice to have some time off and I am getting a little more comfortable about it all, many people in this area are without any jobs and cant meet their basic needs and we are doing that and it is the nature of my job to have lulls just hadnt had any big ones like this in a long long time. Been working on testing material to be able to go and test late summer or early fall.
I have created a new addict, yesterday Daves said where are the yard sales this weekend. How funny, I wouldnt have thought he would enjoy it but he really does. So we are headed to Gower this weekend.
Well all for now.

the birds ate my gooseberries
Well the heat wave finally quit so I opened up the house and went outside, got all my weeding and hoeing done except the two spots I need to have Dave till under where nothing came up. Plan to replant those spots. My garden is doing really well, this is like the first year I can really do it justice, for so many years I was knee deep in church activities all summer that I didnt have the time to keep up with everything. My cucumbers have little baby cucumbers coming on, they are so cute! I have a thousand blooms on them also!!!! My tomatoes, except for one plant look great, my beans were a little spordatic in spots but what came up is doing well, the same with my corn, it might have been the way the girls planted them. My zuchini is about ready to bloom and I have one head of lettuce started and two brochili plants, would have had more but the ants got my plants (ha that rhymes) and those were the only plants they didnt destroy. The ants actually got into the dirt thus destroying the roots. However my cucumbers have been my sucess story! The tomatoes I had to buy because mine frosted and I have to replant peppers this weekend for the same reason. They looked like the were going to live but alas no. Also one other spot didnt come up so maybe some other plants there. Across the way my strawberries and such are looking great. My blueberry plants are awesome, my rasberry plant is okay, my grapes look healthy but are really slow growing. My cherry tree that was half dead is not looking so good, the heat wave didnt help I will give it a month if nothing than bye bye! The goosberries were pretty much picked cleaned by my birds, they were loaded a week ago and I waited to let them plump up a little and now they are in the birds tummies.
Today MDK comes home, I am looking forward to her being home, this weekend we have Jobie's bday party. Well better get off here and clean my house.

i love my husband hes my best friend
Yesterday I was in quite a funk, it seemed like everything I was doing was just not going my way. I have been a little frustrated and worried. I have absolutely no jobs for June. This makes me feel like a loser and it makes things tight. So I was being funky about it all, not really grumpy just off. Dave noticed and asked what was wrong. He told me stop it, you dont need to worry, it will happen. He says try to enjoy the down time, you work hard and do so many different things and we are going to be fine. I needed to hear those words yesterday, he is always able to say what I need to hear.
So I worked on MDK room yesterday still have some to go-wow what a mess! MLK learned how to make quills yesterday in class and they are working on their canvas. They will be showing her how to make many of her own tools. So MLK went out bought ink at Hobby Lobby so she experiment with it. She sent off her paperwork so she can take her test next week. I hope she passes!!!!!! She hopes she passes!!!!
So the plan for today is to do some mentoring hours and then errands and then pick up MLK and come home. Hoping to finish off MDK room today and maybe this evening do some gardening. The heat wave is suppose to break and then I know I will be getting back in the garden. I only have two spots where the weeds are getting ahead. I need to replant in two places too.
Todays my Dads birthday. Happy 65th birthday *i think it is 65.
All for now, must get around!

my daughter's room
Wow, I have been at MDK room now for two and half hours and still not clean. I am doing a deep clean I have threatened for a month and now that she is not here I decided to start. She had alot of clothes that needed to be gone through and that part is done. I still have to go under the bed, hopefully nothing scary lives under there!!! Summer is in full swing, now that MDK is babysitting and MLK is in her summer class. She is enjoying her class alot and it is only like nine students and very relaxed atmosphere. She enjoys her professor also. She is sending in her hour time sheet so she can get the paper back to be able to take her driving test again. I pray she passes, she has to wait till after June 13 to take the test. The rest of my house just needs a good cleaning, nothing too deep as we did most of the spring cleaning before graduation. I plan to get out in the garden again tonight hopefully and get the rest of the lawn done tonight. MLK, Dave, I and the dogs went on a nice walk last night about a mile and half, it was close to sunset so it wasnt too bad.
I havent really got to start on any of my projects that I wanted to get done with my time off. This is bigger dry spell of no interpreting then we have had in quite a while. Well better get off her and go conquer that room.

early morning weeding
Well we broke down, and set the ac for 80 degrees in the house, mostly it is taking the humidity out of the air, with both of us having posion ivy it was getting pretty miserable around here. So I woke up early this morning and got alot of weeding done, I had tried to do it before but would sweat like crazy and then itch like crazy. So this morning was pretty tolerable. I got the tomatoes done, which they are looking great, and I got the cucumber and corn done which also look really wonderful. The cucumbers are loaded with blooms. I have to replant some peppers hopefully this weekend before the party. Also some others seeds didnt come up so I might plant pumpkins there, or some sort of vine plant. Then I moved onto my raised beds, they are so easy to take care of. I have a old stool that I can sit on and just weed to my hearts content. My strawberries are sending out runners really well now and I actually have one runner that is now a plant and sending out a new runner. My peas have small pods and lots of blooms, my carrots, onion from seed and kolbria are up, my turnips are too thick so I keep thining them out. However my biggest bragging is my potatoes. Wow, they are doing awesome, they are knee to thigh high, and look super healthy and so do my onions next to them.
Today I plan to mow the lawn and chill out get stuff done around the house. It suppose to be a scorcher again today, yuck!!

Dave, MLK and I went garage saling yesterday, and had a blast! Dave is actually enjoying this with me, as he loves finding old records and tools and such. We got some really nice clothes yesterday also. MLK was the real winner as she got some really nice outfits, and she is starting to change her wardrobe so it doesnt look so teenagerish. She got two beautiful dresses, summer and sleevless and both girls got a good pair of sneakers. We had to stop early than we wanted to becuase we all got way too hot, and we starting to get sick. We then came home and did very little! That was nice too. Today I hope it is not as hot becuase I have to get out in my garden and get some stuff done or the weeds will take over. My garden is doing well but so are the weeds. I am babying a half dead cherry tree the next two weeks will let me know if it will live or not.
Still got some poision ivy and I officially am done with the predisone today. Well better get around for church.

I must confess I like the Duggars
Yes I like the Duggars, so many people out there have so much bad to say about them, but I really enjoy them. I think they are a wonderful family, and that they are raising them as "normal" is an okay thing. Our society "norms" are just scary right now. The average age right now for a child's first sexual experience is 14, now how scary is that? They have no concept at all of the emotional and spirtual, let alone the physical consquences of this action. Many young adults struggle with alcholism because they started drinking in their homes at age 12 and 13 (middle school age), because they are "going to do it anyway". With years of working in public school and years as a youth group leader I have seen so much heartache and pain with these two subjects alone. I know that parents cant really keep kids from everything at all, but come on buck up and be a parent I say.
But I digress, back to the Duggars, I really enjoy that they enjoy their kids. Dave says the business has doubled at his Redbox machines, you want to know why, the kids are out of school. The Duggars really enjoy each other's company, they love to be together and seem to have a good time. They allow each kid to have their indviduality, but not to the determent of others, all the kids work for the family. I am very very old fashioned about chores. Both my girls can run the household without me or Dave. Now that MLK has her own checking account and MDK has her liscence, we could leave for a week and there would not be a problem one. The house would run fine, they are self sufficient, why because way back in the day, when they were six, seven, eight, we started with the small stuff. I use to have MDK stand on a chair and wash the silverware, both girls helped me fold clothes very early on, they picked up or lost their toys, they sorted laundry. Did everything look perfect, no, and I had to be careful that my instructions didnt come across as criticism, they could not do it as good as I, they were in a learning process. The thing I have noticed about both of them is how cofident they grew when they finally realized I can do anything around the house the parents know how to do. In fact, MDK can get the weed eater started everytime and I cant.
What else do I like about the Duggars, well they really dont care about other peoples opinions, they follow after what they believe in and dont worry about other people think. I have always kinda been this way, as people might say a little off the ranch. I don't believe that we need to always be following after this and that. I think we need to live in a manner that is pleasing to God and for those around us. Do I think new things are evil and we should live in the eighteenth century, heck no! I think we are selective, the best thing we ever did was get rid of cable tv, we have used netflix and we watch tv, we just arent plugged in to the 24/7 news, and commericials and such. It helped us with the I wants at our house and it seemed to be a calming thing not to worry about all the news all the time. The interent provides us with up to date info, and between the library and netflix, we watch more than enough tv.
Well enough about the Duggars, today is our big garage sale day, city wide sale in Savannah. Denise is coming with. Well better get off here.

a nice walk
Louie and I went for a nice walk this morning, we went down the rock road past the bridge. He loves to smell everything, and it quite fascinated with the birds that try to dive bomb us at the bridge. Then he comes home and sacks out for his morning nap. MLK was pucky last night so she is still sleeping, hope she gets to feeling better. Dave is finishing his route today and I have a small job and then lunch with one of my deaf friends.
I didnt start any of my projects yesterday instead I went and got my haircut, it soooo needed it, and it feels sooo much better, it is short and cool, and not sweaty and sticky! We are trying to keep our electric bill down and the ac is over 20 years old so we are keeping it off for now. The price of gas is killing our budget right now, and me not having very many jobs at all, is not helping one bit. So tighten the belt time, I canceled Netflix for the summer, yes to save a little but more importantly to get us to doing more than sitting in front of the tube.
Well I had better get off here and get ready for my job.

trees and Gpa Hancox
As I said i thought I would blog about more things than just my day to day. My new place here has more than 30 trees on our property and when I think of all my trees my thoughts wonder back to Gpa Hancox. He was a quiet man, not too much to say at any given time, but when he said it that was it. I remember he loved nature and esp. trees. He could graft and get trees to start like no one else I knew. I remember learning to drive a tractor with him and doing hay and using the fork with the rope release and it having such a kick that I landed in a cow pie. I remember him sleeping on a old matteress and the daybed out under the skies, when it was hot. I remember how his garage smelled, and the coffee can of coins he had out there, and all the old liscence plates. Now that I have my own place and can be a little more free to do things I wish I would have learned how to graft plants and such, knowledge that was second nature to him. I have a deep love of nature myself and I think that is a family trait I get from both sides, nothing calms be better than being outside and alone.
Today I am home all day and have a little bit of housecleaning, debating on doing a sewing project or doing the stuff I really should be doing and having a little bit of a debate about that. It is a fifty fifty chance I may do the fun stuff instead. MDK has yearbook today and will start babysitting next week. MLK is knee deep in class but this class isnt too strenous at least not yet. This is the last class this teacher is teaching here at MWSU so wonder if it will be an easy class because of that. She showed me her syllabus and she will be learning to matte pictures , quess who she will be teaching how to do that.
Also she will be making her own canvas, so these two skills are really worth it. She is going to learn all the brushes, power tools, and many other things so I think it will be very useful but not as intense as I told her I thought it would be. MLK loves class at the college, she has always loved to learn and likes the atmosphere. However her college professor is very liberal and he is also gay. So we have had discussions on how to talk about that and be a good witness for Christ. I let her lead that conversation, but my biggest thing is letting her think through it and then ask for advice. She must own her own faith, and I think she will do fine. They all had a discussion yesterday she told me about illegal immigration, and she said it is illegal, it is not fair for those that do it legally. Anyway she is enjoying her class alot and we are still working on driving and driving and driving so she can take the test in a couple weeks.
Well better get around.
